Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

A house fire on a humid summer day that could have turned to tragedy for several Fredericton firefighters is my submission in the spot news category. While shooting I heard a loud scream coming from the far end of the home, I rushed over to find the fire had broken through the roof supporting the firefighters. In a frantic rush, six of them dashed off the roof and down the ladder. This frame shows the last two firefighters rushing to get away from the blaze. One firefighter was on his way down when he stopped to reach for a ladder from a fellow firefighter, who remained on the roof. Just after the final firefighter made it to safety, the roof collapsed exposing the fire in the roof area. I feel this frame best represents the danger that the firefighters faced that day. It also shows the importance of teamwork and friendship.

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story:

Camera, gear, cellphone to communicate with the office.Quick reaction time to move where I heard the scream coming from.
