Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

On Feb. 2, 2012, Haligonians awoke to the news that the city was paralyzed by a transit strike. News 95.7's Indepth Team Coverage began with breaking social media reaction to the news. Our morning reporter Desiree Finhert was live at the Dartmouth 'Bridge' bus terminal where labour organizations were holding a support rally. She set the scene for listeners as hundreds of extra vehicles hit the road for the morning commute She did a live interview with the president of the Amalgamated Transit Union, Ken Wilson, on the latest details surrounding the breakdown in contract negotiations. Following our initial report was another effort to engage listeners through social media, with our online poll asking whether the transit strike was justified? We also provided information on transit users turning to use of the Twitter hashtag #HFXcarpool in an effort to organize transportation. Next, reporter Erin Trafford had a report on advice from Halifax Regional Police on safely getting around, in lieu of transit service. The anchors then provided information on downtown parking restrictions at Halifax's IWK Health Centre to Reporter Scott Simpson follows with a piece on how university students planned to get to classes during the transit strike and their appeal for academic amnesty. Wrapping up our coverage, we turned to climbing gas prices, as more cars hit the road in the wake of the strike. The newcast continues with a story on concerns about the possible sale of a downtown Halifax high school, and a developing story on the largest child porn bust in Canadian history with more than 50 arrests. Reporter Amy Arts concludes the newscast setting up the Groundhog Day forecast from Nova Scotia's Shubenacadie Wildlife Park. News 95.7 provided some of the most thorough coverage of the Metro Transit strike in the market through the job action's six-week duration.
