Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

This News 95.7 submission in the category of Best information radio program is Maritime Morning’s coverage of reaction to the death of Raymond Taavel. This story which gained national attention brings together the compelling narratives of a prominent gay activist being beaten to death and the accused, a man suffering from mental illness released on a day pass from the Nova Scotia forensic hospital. Bringing together wild sound recorded at a vigil the night before, the voices of friends and associates of the Raymond, the police, members of the mental health community and citizens, the program identified how shortfalls in our Nova Scotia’s corrections and mental health systems can have a profound personal impact in the community.
