Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

Best Cover Summer 2012 East Coast Living Photography: James Ingram Design: Gwen North Summer 2012 Issue Freelance photographer James Ingram spent a day at the summer home of Rowena and Rob Nunn to get photos for our summer cover story on their new home. The house on Marriott’s Cove, just east of Chester, N.S., is a spectacular, but laidback abode with a wraparound deck, water access and sweeping ocean views. But the stars of this shoot were the Nunn’s then nine-year-old triplets, Sophia, Adrian and Sam. The key was to let them do what they do best: be kids on a summer day. James got shots of the trio roasting marshmallows, exploring the sea life in their backyard and cooling off with a dip in the cove. There was no shortage of photos to choose from for this cover. In fact, designer Gwen North had several top choices. But we believe this photo captures not only the home and property that is at the centre of the cover story, but with the triplets excitedly plunging into the summer waters to cool down, we see how this home is a getaway from hectic everyday life, especially for the children. While the cover story is about the home and its features, this cover photo captures more than décor and style. It speaks to the memories of simple, fun and easy summers by the coast, which many of us on the East Coast always remember.
