Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

The Travelling Prostitute is an online treatment of research by the CBC Newfoundland and Labrador Investigates team. The story exposes and explores a new generation of prostitutes travelling across the country to Newfoundland because a booming economy means more money to spend on the oldest profession. The online treatment is unique because it's the only place where the team's research is displayed in depth. A key element is a series of video interviews, especially the stories of women who've been damaged by the prostitution trade. Some of the videos were amongst the most viewed of 2013.Producer Kathryn King and Developer Peter Gosse worked hard to present a controversial subject in a tasteful and respectful manner while meeting difficult deadlines.

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story:

CBC News in Newfoundland & Labrador has 44 full-time employees and three part timers. Two people, Producer Kathryn King and Developer Peter Gosse created The Travelling Prostitute for cbc.ca/nl. The CBC Investigates team, which gathered the information over a three-month period, has a crew of four.
