Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

I received a call from our newsroom about a fire that had broken out at around midnight in the downtown area of St. John's. When I arrived, there were explosions from arcing electrical wires leading to the house and there was heavy smoke and flame inside the house. I started taking photos and video at the same time using both my Iphone and my DSLR. This video is at the beginning of the online video that I compiled after the fire. For the next two hours I photographed the fire from the best vantage point possible and tweeted a couple of updates to my followers even though it was the early hours of the morning. I was the only journalist from The Telegram covering the event. Once the fire was under control, I returned to the office and wrote up a brief but detailed story on what happened and posted it, as well as an extensive photo gallery, to our website. I then compiled and edited a video with clips from my Iphone as well as my DSLR into a package that documented what happened but at a length that would keep our readers' attention. This was all done in the space of about 4 hours from the initial call to the final video post to our website. The whole package was online and ready well before people woke up in the morning to catch the early news. No pictures were used in that day's paper as it was well past deadline when the fire happened.
