Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

On Thursday, September 25, some young soccer players were taking part in a end-of-season camp. A 19- year-old male jumped from the bleachers, ran on the field and randomly stabbed an 11-year-old boy in the neck. People watching, including parents, were shocked as they looked on. The stabber left the scene, but was later arrested and charged with attempted murder. The victim spent over a week in hospital and has since recovered.

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story:

On the night of the stabbing our on-call reporter, Danielle Barron, was the second reporter on the scene and was the first to do a live radio report on the incident. VOCM News gave continuing updates all evening with live reports from the soccer pitch and later from police headquarters. The live updates were given for 4 hours after the incident was first reported. Danielle was assisted by 3 other people back in the newsroom who were anchoring newscasts and updating the VOCM.com website.
