Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

In this broadcast you will hear the story of Louis Jones Bernard, son of Mary Lynn Bernard and Andy Jones. Both have been fixtures in the NL arts scene for decades, but in this broadcast they talk about what was their hardest role to date, as parents of a child who struggled with a mental illness. That struggle ended last winter when Louis could no longer fight that battle and he took his own life. Instead of hiding behind what some would see as the shame of suicide. They faced it head on, wanting people to talk about this issue. One that is impacting so many of our listeners.

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story:

The VOCM Roundtable series was conceived, written, and produced by Fred Hutton. Hutton is responsible for lining up the guests and conducting the interviews. An engineer records the broadcasts and post-production is completed by an editor. That would include adding bumpers to the live-to-tape interviews. A total of about four hours would be dedicated to each production.
