Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

The morning of June 5th, 2014, after a sleepless night in Moncton, CBC Information Morning signed on at 5:55. Just hours earlier, three RCMP officers had been shot and killed. A massive manhunt continued for the killer and much of the city remained under police lockdown. CBC reporters and producers worked through the night and early morning to present the most up-to-date program in the midst of a terrifying situation. Our program delivered the latest news and interviews to a city desperate for information from credible sources. We talked to police, frightened residents, hospital officials, our reporters in the field along with other guests and carried a live broadcast of an RCMP news conference. Our morning team shared important information via social media throughout the program and our website carried the latest news (see CBC NB WEB attachment). CBC Moncton continued to broadcast for three and a half additional hours beyond the end of our regularly scheduled program. The excerpt we've submitted aired between 7 and 8 am.

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story:

This program was undertaken using regular CBC NB resources. Our team worked all night as the situation evolved, beginning approximately nine hours before the program hit the air.
