Short explanation of the story and how it developed:The story centred on an 82 year old Moncton man, Bill MacLean, who is battling lung cancer but still dedicates one day a week to walking homeless dogs at the SPCA. Bill has developed a strong bond with the dogs especially 15 year old, Poppy. As a senor dog, Poppy had been having difficulty finding a family willing to adopt him. Bill, who is unable to adopt a dog, expressed his deep sadness over the situation. The impact of the story was immediate. The impact of the story was immediate. After seeing the story on Global News at 6, a gentleman from Sussex knew he wanted to provide the dog with a good home and adopted Poppy about a week later. A follow up story was shot and aired on November 29th with the update.
