Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

Following failed contract negotiations with the province, Nova Scotia's teachers entered a legal strike position early December. Instead of walking out on the job, the Nova Scotia Teachers Union announced they would be starting work-to-rule job action on Monday December 5th, which they described as a "necessary first action" to improve education for students. Parents went into the weekend feeling confident their children would be in school on Monday morning, however that changed on Saturday December 3rd when Education Minister Karen Casey called a news conference. Citing safety concerns due to an expected lack of student supervision, Casey announced schools would be closed to students. On Monday morning parents across the province awoke to find schools closed and scrambled to find child care.; News 957 provided team coverage as the teachers dispute spun out of control asking what went wrong, what will it take to fix the problem and what it means to out kids caught in the classro
