Short explanation of the story and how it developed:This was a powerful documentary about healing - and how two individuals following different paths - connected through the cleansing power of a sweat lodge in Happy Valley-Goose Bay. John Gaudi recorded interviews with the two main characters before and after the sweat lodge ceremony. He also participated in the actual sweat which allowed him incredible (and rare) access to this spiritual process. The two main characters trusted him with their own stories at very vulnerable points in their lives. Due to the power of their stories, we chose to produce the documentary without narration.
Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story:John Gaudi recorded the raw interviews at different stages (as part of his normal assingments at CBC Labrador). Then, he had a week to assemble and mix the final documentary for Atlantic Voice.
