Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

I arrived at an accident scene where a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle. Firefighters and paramedics were arriving at the same time and began to treat a man lying on the road as his distraught female friend looked on and cried. As paramedics tended to the victim’s injuries, she kneeled above him to check on his condition. The victim then reached up in an effort to comfort her. This photo stood out from other similar scenes that I go to because of the raw emotion on the woman’s face and his attempt to comfort her despite his injuries.

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story:

I am a dedicated full-time breaking news photographer for The Telegram and work flex-hours to respond to breaking news events outside normal working hours. This job requires that I be able to respond immediately to any serious news event, take photos and video, process the images, write the stories and post them directly to our website.
