Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

I previously completed a bachelors degree in journalism at a U.S. university, however my focus was on graphic design and page layout. When I graduated, I returned to Canada, and instead of beginning my journalism career, I became a national team athlete, racing in the sport of skeleton for six years. When I retired, I decided to try to pick up where I left off, and returned to school to complete a master’s degree, this time with a focus on reporting, writing and digital journalism. I completed an internship at CBC Ottawa in June 2016, and a second at the CBC London U.K. bureau during fall 2016, before beginning my first reporting job at a weekly newspaper in rural Alberta in 2017. After six months, I was looking for something more challenging, and was offered a job as a daily reporter at the Times & Transcript in Moncton – another first.
