Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

Cindy McCormick was a prominent Saint John dentist murdered by her partner - a prominent Saint John firefighter - while she was attending a dental conference in Alberta last October. Her death triggered a community conversation around the issue of domestic violence and nearly two weeks after she was killed 100 of her friends gathered on the shore of First Lake outside Saint John on a Saturday evening to remember her and reflect on what happened. Rachel Cave had covered the murder and attended the vigil with only a recorder. Quietly over the course of the evening she interacted with those who knew Cindy and in a moving item that aired the following Monday morning, gently documented both the depth of their grief and their thoughts on lessons her death might hold for others.

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story:

There were no extraordinary resources employed to produce Remebering Cindy. Weekend overtime was approved for Rachel Cave to attend the vigil and to edit the material she gathered.
