Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

The Guardian newsroom took over the entire April 6 edition to devote to the issue of poverty. As the cover details, the news section featured personal stories, opinion pieces as well as response from government; the sports section included athletes who had grown up impoverished as well as highlighting sporting equipment exchange programs for children who need help getting outfitted for sports; the lifestyles section included more personal stories as well as a comprehensive list of where to get help. The cover is simple, impactful and informs about what readers could expect inside.

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story:

The whole newsroom contributed with stories to run in the poverty edition and took months of preparation. The cover was put together by a team of editors - Wayne Thibodeau, Jocelyne Lloyd, Carolyn Drake - and graphic designer Paul Pettipas.
