Short explanation of the story and how it developed: I spotted this story in the Fundy North Fishermen's Association's newsletter. It mentioned their ghost gear retrieval video had been nominated for an international award. A call for more information revealed a staggering amount of ghost gear in the Bay of Fundy that fishers are trying to clean up. I learned that the federal funding for the retrieval work had ended with tonnes of ghost gear still at the bottom of the Bay of Fundy which is home to the endangered North Atlantic Right Whale. We interviewed the association's assistant director and two fishers who were involved in the retrieval project and followed up with government officials. |

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story: This story took about four days to complete as we awaited on statistics from the association and videos from fishers who were involved in the retrieval operations. We also used some footage from Fundy North's award winning video as there were no more trips left to get us on a boat. We also asked our graphics team for some art to make the web story more engaging. |
