Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

Island Morning broadcast live from Murray Harbour to hear how people were being affected by repeated disruptions in the ferry service between P.E.I. and N.S. We wanted to show up in their community when it mattered, and we did. We had locals speak with us live, small business owners, people from the tourism and trucking sectors, a representative from Northumberland Ferries, local mayors, an MLA, and an MP. We invited people to come to the live broadcast and chat over coffee. Many folks showed up to share their thoughts and opinions, to vent over the airwaves, and to demand that those in decision-making positions be held accountable. The result was a strengthened connection between CBC and the local community, and building trust that CBC would be there when it counts. We reflected what mattered most to that community, when it mattered most.

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story:

We had several days of a backfill AP so that Josefa Cameron could dedicate herself to chasing guests and planning the remote. We also used Island Morning's budget to pay for accommodations, travel, and coffee for people who showed up to speak with us.
