Short explanation of the story and how it developed: Curtis Hicks is a videographer at CBC and has never done any reporting... but when packages from "The Singing Newfoundlander" kept ending up on his desk, he started a journey to find out more about the man who was sending them. When Caroline heard about Curtis' packages and the unlikely friendship that was forming, she worked with Curtis to craft an audio documentary. But the story is more than a profile of a Newfoundland artist; it's an untold story of a man who helped build a foundation for all Newfoundland artists. And, the story uses archival recordings as sonic cues, as well as humour and creative writing and editing. |

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story: Curtis gathered audio as he received packages, and then when it was decided he would make an audio doc about his journey, he was given 2 weeks off his regular job to gather more interviews, scenes and music, and together, Caroline and Curtis wrote the doc and sound mixed it. |
