Short explanation of the story and how it developed: Ella is an outstanding video journalist. Despite the fact that she's relatively new, she's shown creativity in her shooting and storytelling, easily able to change her tone and approach from features to crime stories. She always wants to improve her skills and applies everything she learns. She is someone we can always rely on to get the story, get it right, and create a complete and understandable story. She's already built trust in several communities, allowing her to tell some outstanding stories. I wish we could have shared more than three of her pieces! |

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story: Ella worked fully independently, shooting, writing and editing all submitted items. All stories were shot and filed in one day, all on weekends when there is no additional support for our journalists. (Weekend reporters in Halifax are the only staff members on duty.) |
