Short explanation of the story and how it developed: Tropical storm Leslie swept into eastern Newfoundland on Sept. 11, 2011, with hurricane-force winds. Our online news coverage throughout the day incorporated a main report, sidebars, features, multimedia, user-generated content and social media. We managed our Twitter feed (our mobile strategy was essential during a massive power outage) and a live blog that brought real-time updates and visuals from across the storm area.) As per usual, much of the information from the field came from the CBC News team, many of whom contribute to our live blog. The attached document includes a full list with hyperlinks of all the digital content that we produced. |

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story: During the course of the day and night, our online team included journalists John Gushue, Kathryn King, Emily Brass and Heather Barrett, who between them wrote stories, managed the live blog and produced multimedia tools. Our developer Peter Gosse provided ongoing assistance. We received help from the CBC's Community team in Toronto for compiling a Storify-powered feature of tweeted photographs. No additional cash was spent on the project, nor were extra resources (e.g., hiring casuals) allotted. |
