Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

I felt an enormous amount of pressure shooting the Royal visit – they’re a pretty big deal. It was also semi-frustrating and hard work. I arrived uptown about an hour and a half early to get a good spot. Risers were placed in locations where planned photo ops would be happening for the media. They weren't very big but they did help. The Royals have a huge entourage. Dozens of Brit photogs, police and other security around them at all times. To get a clear shot is supremely difficult. The British photographers that follow them around the world get the best access. So at one point, I ended up stepping off the riser and joined the public on the sidewalk, running and doing my best to fight through the crowd to get ahead of the Prince and Camilla. I ended up getting this shot, just before he ducked into a building for a Canadian citizenship ceremony. I like it because even though it is a tight shot, there is so much context – the fan with the camera, the RCMP at attention, the security guard with the earpiece, all surrounding the Prince. And even though half of his face is obscured, you can still absolutely recognize those eyes and the lines around them. It’s a different kind of shot, and I like it because of that.
