Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

In the tiny community of Change Island, NL, Bown's General Store had been open for business for more than a century. But no more. This fall, Ralph and Winston Bown shut down the store that their grandfather had built, their father had taken over, and that had been handed down to them. The brothers never changed the way business was done in the store, from writing receipts by hand to writing prices directly on the products. No credit or debit cards were accepted, but you could buy anything from groceries to fishing twine and everything in between. But to the people of Change Island, the store was much more than just a place to shop. Reporter Zach Goudie spent many hours on the phone, convincing the reluctant brothers that their story had to be told. Unassuming, modest, humble and shy of the spotlight, the Bown brothers are the embodiment of the quiet dignity of rural life. Through evocative writing and insightful clip selection, Goudie's remarkable story transports the audience to another world, contained inside a small fishing stage, where time has stood still for a hundred years and three generations.
