Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

When I set out to do this story, it seemed simple enough. Hi tech games company finds home in small historic Nova Scotia town. And it all seemed to be going according to the script until I asked owner Jeremy Wellard a throwaway question about his company's relationship with the town: "There isn't one." Suddenly, it was a much more complicated — and interesting story — that raised larger questions about how to manage the relationship between towns that claim they're eager to welcome new businesses and businesses that feel like they don't quite fit. The story did what such stories are intended to do: create a conversation.

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story:

Story was researched and written exclusively by Stephen Kimber; edited by Dawn Chafe. Layout/design was a combination of supplied photos and stock art, skillfully put together by Carolyn Gill.
