Short explanation of the story and how it developed: War Monument: Published the day after the fatal shooting of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo, a reservist who was guarding the National War Monument outside the Parliament buildings in Ottawa. Big Ears Teddy: After CBC radio host Jian Ghomeshi is fired amid allegations of sexual misconduct, several alleged victims detail a similar story involving a peculiar ritual with Ghomeshi's beloved "Big Ears Teddy" where the teddy bear is turned away to face the wall prior to the sexual assault. This cartoon was published the day after criminal charges were formerly laid against Ghomeshi. Honour Our Vets: The Harper government declares May 9th a day to honour Canadian veterans of the war in Afghanistan, while simultaneously mired in a series of conflicts over its lack of support for veterans, including a court battle over the new veterans charter. |
