Short explanation of the story and how it developed: A shooting rampage explodes overnight that leaves three Mounties dead, another two injured and a region in shock. Our job in producing our Morning newscast on Thursday June 5th, 2014 was a huge challenge. Get our team on the ground in Moncton, New Brunswick, work with local law enforcement and alert our listeners that a massive manhunt was underway with an armed and dangerous killer on the loose. This all in under 5-hours. On Thursday June 5, 2014, most Canadians woke up to the news that 3 RCMP officers had been shot and killed, another 2 injured, in Moncton. Citizens in a large section of the northwest part of the city were told to stay inside and lock their doors as police launched a massive manhunt to track down 24-year-old Justin Bourque, who they considered armed and dangerous. News 95.7 reporters covered the story from Moncton and Halifax, along with other news from that day. We respectfully submit this newscast for your consideration. |
