Short explanation of the story and how it developed: On a sunny summer evening in early June, word started to circulate on Twitter about a possible shooting involving RCMP officers in Moncton and the search for a gunman. CBC New Brunswick reporter Daniel McHardie headed into the office in Fredericton to take charge of pulling in all the information he could gather to post online stories and updates so people could have easy access to all the information they needed on web and mobile as events unfolded during shootings and the 30-hour manhunt for Justin Bourque that ensued. By pulling together information from CBC reporters in the field, RCMP and others on Twitter, people on Facebook, and user-generated content, CBC was able to keep people from Moncton and beyond up to date on what was happening at this critical time in Moncton. |

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story: The big challenge was time. Daniel McHardie's normal shift is from 0600 to 1445, but on this day he was back in the office about five ours after the end of his regular shift and remained on the story through the night until almost the start of his next regular shift, at which time others took over the story so he could get some rest. |
