Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

The exclusive images of police killer Justin Bourque. Great photojournalism so immediate that officials used the image to help save police lives and the shocked Bourque family recognized Justin as the shooter. When the first 911 call was made at 7:15 p.m. on June 4 to Moncton, N.B. RCMP that a man was spotted carrying guns in a residential neighbourhood, photographer Viktor Pivovarov, who was photographing a nearby baseball game, was dispatched to the scene. Rushing to the area Pivovarov was just a few metres from Constable Darlene Goguen when she was struck in her cruiser by multiple rounds. Unaware where the bullets were coming from, Pivovarov drove through the gunfire, peeking over the dashboard in an attempt to avoid being struck by bullets. As wounded police officer Constable Eric Dubois traded gunfire with the assailant, Pivovarov pulled into a side street nearby. He had just come to a stop and was about to retreat further from the shootout when suddenly he saw the gunman, Justin Bourque. Pivovarov then made the exclusive photograph soon seen around the world. After Pivovarov took the pictures of the gunman, he stayed at the scene for another hour before heading back to the Times & Transcript newsroom to get the photos online. (These photos were immediately used by police through social media to identify the gunman and to determine the extent of the weapons he carried in their attempts to capture and arrest him.)
