Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

I was assigned the task of tracking a lobster from the moment it was caught off Nova Scotia until it was served to a customer at a high end restaurant in a market outside of the Maritimes. I had to find a fisherman who would take us out, the middlemen who temporarily stored then packaged and delivered the lobster to the airport, an airline carrier that transported the lobster and a restaurant that picked it up on the other end, prepared and served it. It took a lot of phone calls and coordination to find the right people and make arrangements, but those in the industry were extremely supportive of the idea and ensured everything came together over the space of a couple of days as we followed the lobster from pot to plate. In one day, we went out in a lobster boat off Nova Scotia's South Shore, followed it to a nearby holding facility then to Tangier where it was packaged. Next we followed the truck to the airport where the lobsters were put in containers and lifted onto a plane. I had arranged for a freelance photographer to be at the airport in Las Vegas where the shipment was picked up and delivered to the Aquaknox, where I did a telephone interview with the chef who prepared the lobster.

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story:

I was given several days to make arrangements so that this story could come together as well as overtime and mileage so that we could follow the lobster several hundred kilometers in one day from a boat offshore to packaging facilities and the airport. Herald Magazine also spent money to hire a freelance photographer in Las Vegas to take pictures of the lobster being prepared and served.
