Short explanation of the story and how it developed: Wizard of Oz: This cartoon used a classic movie to illustrate the perceived weaknesses of the respective party leaders in the lead-up to the 2015 federal election. (Published Aug. 22, 2015) Judgement Day Waiting Room: One of several cartoons created in response to the mass killing of cartoonists and writers by Islamic extremists in January 2015 at the offices of Charlie Hebdo, a French satirical publication. The attackers were eventually killed in an exchange of gunfire with police. (Published Jan. 13, 2015) Harper toss: Published in print the day after the federal election (and online the evening of the 19th as the Liberals' majority win was declared), this cartoon uses the iconic image of Toronto Blue Jays outfielder José Bautista tossing his bat (after hitting a crucial home run against the Texas Rangers in the 2015 MLB playoffs only a few nights previous) to reflect the Liberal victory over the Harper Conservatives.
