Short explanation of the story and how it developed: This story examined the state of the lobster industry in Atlantic Canada, looking beyond the optimism surrounding recent reports of good harvests. The writer found that the positive outlook for this sector is more a matter of good luck than wise management; given our limited scientific understanding of marine species population dynamics, there is considerable uncertainty about the future prospects for this fishery and for the communities that are economically dependant upon it. |
