Short explanation of the story and how it developed: The December 3rd newscast represents efforts on a day where there was no huge, breaking story. Such days are often the most challenging, as reporters have to use their enterprise skills to come up with stories that will be of interest to the audience. The newscast was headlined by a live report on swarmings near the Halifax Common, coverage on police activity at a medical marijuana lounge. another live on-location report regarding a fire that caused phone outages across the Maritimes, and a report on labour strife between the NSGEU and Nova Scotia government. It also included a report from Global New Brunswick that garnered national attention. |

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story: Global Halifax works with significantly fewer resources than its competitors, so it is very important that all resources are allocated wisely. Doing so means making tough decisions on story selection, execution and delivery. Live reports are often handled by one- or two-person teams using Streambox technology. Many reporters are videojournalists who must also act as camera operators and editors, which means making the most effective use of their time is not only a priority, but also crucial to getting a full newscast to air. |
