Short explanation of the story and how it developed: On the morning of April 23, 2015, VOCM News was informed of a situation developing on the Trans Canada Highway about 30 minutes outside St. John's. VOCM's Traffic Reporter, Paul Raynes, was dispatched to the scene. During the course of the morning show, Paul broadcast several live hits from the area and throughout the morning developed the story to the point where he conducted an exclusive live interview with two people who had found the body of a loved one in a truck that had veered off the road several days earlier, killing the driver. In that interview, the subjects revealed that they had unsuccessfully tried for days to have the police help in the search and they ultimately discovered the body near where they had asked the police to look. |

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story: The VOCM Newsroom employs 14 (13 full-time and 1 part-time) reporters, news anchors and web editors. The newsroom is staffed 19 hours per day, 5 days a week and 17 hours per day on the weekend. On this day though it was Paul who covered and developed this story by himself. |
