Short explanation of the story and how it developed: In daily newspaper photography it is not a normal thing to have a bit of time to spend with a subject of a story. Usually it is go in get a shot move on to the next assignment. The nice things about this assignment was that I had some time to spend with the jeweler and was able to follow him around while he worked on pieces. His workshop was in a very dimly lit basement in his home and I wanted to convey the sense of this through the photos and even though is used multiple flashes my intention was for the photo to come out looking like it was just available light, which I believe I succeeded in doing. |
