Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

Our cover introduces the reader to the legacy of a storied family cottage owned by the Sobey family in Chance Harbour, Pictou County. There were many photos of Monique Sobey who was immersed in the reimagining of a much-loved retreat by the ocean but it was the image of the desk neatly tucked into the corner of the open concept cottage that pulled together the elements of the story where we found ourselves caught up in the unintentional symbolism of the details pictured in our cover. From the clean modern shiplap walls to the contemporary painting, part of the family's private collection, to the warm wood tones of the antique desk and chair. The globe and the binoculars a reminder of the vision of Sobey family empire founder Frank Sobey. The summer cover is expressed as Still Life where we were all experiencing quiet and isolation during a summer defined by a pandemic but also life and legacy in motion and how time moves on.
