Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

This newscast led with the latest details on an overnight fire at Moncton City Hall and audio from a local fire official. We then jumped over to the state of Maine, where a manhunt was continuing that morning for a man accused of shooting more than 30 people. We also had details of the carbon tax exemption on home heating oil which was announced late the day before, the latest fuel prices in the province, and details on a lawsuit involving the Restigouche Hospital Centre. We rounded on the newscast with charges laid in the deaths of 14 horses and the kickoff of the annual poppy campaign.

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story:

Many of those stories were written by myself earlier that morning, including the city hall fire, the Maine manhunt update, and the latest details on fuel prices. My colleague Brad Perry in Saint John wrote many of the other stories, including the carbon tax exemption, the hospital lawsuit, and the charges relating to the dead horses.
