Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

Spring 2018. The crab fishing begins in New-Brunswick with a lot of anxiety. The federal government has closed an area of 14 000km2 to fishing to protect black whales. The economy of the Acadian Peninsula depends a lot of the fishing industry. Fishermen and seasonal workers, who fear another “black hole”, hold their breath. In order to understand how this political measure affects fishery, I have set sail two days with a crab fishing boat, the Mathieu Marie-Pier.

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story:

I, Videojournalist for the Acadian Peninsula, N.-B, went for two days on board on a fishing boat. I was the only media member with this six fishermen. I did the research by myself which was a big part of the job because as you know fishermen are now very suspicious with journalists in the north of N.-B. On board I was shooting video all the time as well I was taking some pictures for the web article. I have written the script and edited this report in one day and a half of work. My boss supported me during all that process and insured me for the trip. I am not working anymore for CBC Radio-Canada. I decided to quit few months ago to work abroad as an independent journalist. This is why I am editing this submission by myself.
