Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

On Wednesday October 17th the recreational use of Cannabis became legal in Canada. For the first time Nova Scotians could walk into a number of Nova Scotia Liquor Corporations outlets and legally buy marijuana. News 95.7 had extensive coverage of this watershed day, from Reporter Mark Hodgins speaking to customers live at the province's only cannabis only outlet. Parliament Hill Reporter Cormac McSweeney covering the story for our listeners from Ottawa, and news that those who had a previous simple possession charge in the past were hoping to hear. News 95.7 Reporter Chris Halef joining our coverage with a closer look into supply issues with the now legalized product. And a look at Halifax Regional Municipality's smoking ban, tough legislation that banned smoking both cannabis and tobacco outside of, to this point underdetermined, designated smoking areas/ The news doesn't stop there, a proposal to build a controversial asphalt plan in the community of Tantallion, a call from Irving employees to ensure that work awarded to their shipyard wasn't about to be farmed out to Quebec, and the ongoing trial of a British sailor accused of participating in a group sexual assault at CFB Shearwater are also included in this entry.
