Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

These stories are not about an individual business, but rather about the drawn-out unravelling of a controversial business immigration program here on PEI. I've spent years reporting on the Provincial Nominee Program, eventually uncovering information about the PNP's ineffectiveness and susceptibility to abuse. Government acknowledgements of problems with the program came only grudgingly after years of digging and investigative reporting. In late 2017 I reported on the massive amount of immigrant investor defaults - a story that was quoted extensively in 2018, prior to the eventual shutdown of the program. These three stories which I've submitted for this year's awards, including a story that was the result of digging through an ATIP, came in the weeks after the PNP shutdown. The life and death of the PNP has been PEI's biggest business story for the last decade. It's a complex story I've enjoyed digging into, and continue to follow.

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story:

There were no extra resources for producing these stories, and the turn-around on each would have taken place over one day, with one reporter (me) filing for multiple media (tv, radio and online). In the case of the story with the ATIP information that would obviously have been requested months before. The analysis piece includes quotes which were gathered as part of other news stories reported a few days prior to publication of that item. I did these stories while at the same time reporting daily political news.
