Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

This four-part series looked at the push to expand mining in Nova Scotia, and the resulting environmental and financial consequences. Part 1, "Welcome to the Gold Rush," was an overview of the politics and lobbying around increased mining. Part 2, "Going for Gold," looked specifically at the Atlantic Gold Corporation and its efforts to open four gold mines on the eastern shore. Part 3, "Cobequid Gold and Tatamagouche water," examined the move to open up the Eastern Cobequid Highlands to gold mining, and how such mining might affect the drinking water supply for the town of Tatamagouche. Part 4, "How the mining lobby is working to undermine environmental protection in Nova Scotia," used a proposal for a quarry in Cape Breton to show how mining corporations are attempting to weaken environmental protections.
