Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

Islanders were growing both exasperated and worried about Covid 19 when this newscast aired. There was a huge outcry that the province would be letting seasonal residents come to PEI. Some Islanders were vocal against the Premier and the Chief Public Health Officer. This newscast reflects that tension. But it also demonstrates other impacts of the pandemic such as on the lobster industry and local businesses. Despite this, there was also joy. You can hear it in the voice of a barbershop owner who opened up shop again for the first time after some Covid restrictions being lifted. This newscast captures a moment in time on our Island and the emotions that came with it. It also features other stories of importance to Islanders on that day. Life goes on, even in a pandemic.

Resources of the newsroom (money and time) available to complete the story:

This newscast was mostly gathered and chased by the radio news desk's only editor, Angela Walker, with tape for two stories cut from interviews conducted by other reporters. As always at CBC PEI, it was a team effort.
