Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

Retired filmmaker Jon Pedersen told me of his fears for the public artworks housed in the once-imposing Centennial Building in Fredericton. I spent two months trying to learn what will happen to the art when the government building becomes high-end apartments and a luxury hotel. Local and provincial politicians, civil servants and people directly involved in the hotel project refused to speak to me. Every day I got a new "no," although off the record a few were pessimistic the public would see much of the art again. I tracked down the two artists still alive who created work for the building, and pursued information in other ways. The building's new owner accused me of being a “sneaky journalist" when I attended a public planning meeting. In the end, the story showed our audience the importance of the art, the dearth of responsibility taken by government, the new owner's lack of interest, and the grim future awaiting the once-celebrated works.
