Short explanation of the story and how it developed:

This is a splendid example of synergy between writer and photographer. The piece records an example of not much necessarily changing in our neck of the woods, illustrating both our history and our character. It’s a fine example of how traditional low tech gets the job done with minimal environmental impact—for the same reasons one man and horse can be as efficient harvesting timber as a huge machine, without massive damage left in their wake. The prolific photography that beautifully illustrates the piece could only be achieved by travelling to the location and spending considerable time and effort. It also catalogues the abundant natural resources in the Minas Basin likely to be negatively impacted by efforts to capture the energy inherent in the dynamic tides. It’s an excellent paradigm of food for thought.
